About Robbie

Saxophonist/flutist/clarinetist and composer/arranger Robbie Jordan's story begins in Boise, Idaho. He studied classical clarinet with James Hopper at Boise State University and later joined him in the clarinet section of the Boise Philharmonic.  Robbie also studied jazz theory with Gary Peacock.

In 1976, David Lanz encouraged him to relocate to Seattle and play in Lanz's band. This turning point in Jordan's career opened the diverse world of concert touring and recording experience to Robbie. He performed and/or recorded with notable Windham Hill recording artists Scott Cossu, Michael Hedges, Michael Manring, Van Manakas, Liz Story, Alex Degrasis and Scott Vomvolakis. Jordan has also recorded and performed with Paul Speer and David Lanz, the legendary new-age jazz artist.

Jordan had the opportunity to perform with jazz greats such as Dave Valentin, Allen Vizzutti, Julian Priester, Carter Jefferson, Jim Knapp's Seattle Composers and Improvisers Orchestra and Gary Peacock. He has also played with notable rock/r&b artists including Bo Diddley, Johnny Rivers, Buddy Miles, Mark Lindsay and Rich Dangel and the Reputations; other northwest/national artists include Little Bill and the Bluenotes, Merilee Rush, Dick Powell Band, and Seattle Women in R&B. Check out Robbie's Artist Gallery for some fun surprises.

Robbie's current work includes Mitch Woods, studio sessions with an upcoming CD with the Reputations featuring Tim Scott, Danny Hoefer, Kurt Kolstad, Scott Vomvolakis, Mike Jaap, and the Boise Horns.  Robbie's own group, Sweet Sucker, features Danny Hoefer, Pat Hues, and Tim Haines.  Robbie will be playing some upcoming concerts with Dr. John, with the Neville Brothers also on the bill.  Check his calendar.

Robbie is a performing artist/clinician on saxophones, clarinets and flutes. He has given hundreds of workshops, master classes and concerts at festivals and schools. He is a member of the International Association of Jazz Educators and Seattle Musicians Union. He is currently the artistic director of the South Sound Youth Jazz Groups. Look at his Education link for more information.

Robbie's talents have been used as an arranger and composer for several notable artists and for soundtrack work, and his compositions can be heard on the PBS special "The Vertical Environment" hosted by Lynn Redgrave. Jordan is also an adaptable artist who is equally at ease in pop-jazz, fusion, and straight-ahead settings. He plays with the Seattle Music Company, composed of members from the Seattle Symphony and other leading studio artists. The Seattle Music Company is in demand in the film and recording industry.

Lately, Robbie has recorded and performed with the legendary Greg Adams, a founding member of Tower of Power. Jordan is featured playing flute, alto flute and bass clarinet, as well as alto and baritone saxes, on Adams' album "Metro". Other work of Robbie's can be heard on the David Lanz album, "Songs from an English Garden", Paul Speer's "Spectral Voyages", Scott Cossu's CDs, and many more.

Robbie Jordan's talent and energy continue to flow through his own projects, while touring and recording with other artists, and playing in major festivals and concerts worldwide.
